Bedeviled Eggs by Laura Childs
“He reads Mario Puzo,” Suzanne murmured, focusing on a couple that was eyeing each other warily. “She likes Charlaine Harris.”
“Could be a match made in heaven,” said Toni, brushing her hands against her apron after hastily arranging a plate of sugar cookies.
“Only if you believe in a vampire who’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse,” Suzanne, as she glanced over the crowd of hopeful single that had jammed the Cackleberry Club this Sunday afternoon.”
OK, I shared more than just a few opening sentences – more like a few opening paragraphs. But I think this is a great opening – especially for anyone familiar with the book world.
Bedeviled Eggs is the second in Childs’ Cackleberry Club Mysteries. I love the Cackleberry Club – restaurant, tea shop, book nook, and yarn shop all in one – it’s my dream retirement job – well maybe not the restaurant. I only like to cook for fun, not work. If you’ve not yet read tried this series, I highly recommend that you add it to your TBR list. Recipes are included at the end of the book.
