Friday Memes: Book Beginnings – Friday 56

15 Mar

Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda’s Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

The closest book to me this morning is one that I hope to read over Spring Break (Yea Spring Break is just one week away!!!!)  Oh – and yes I checked this book out from the library just because of the cover (and because it mentions chocolate).

The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop by Kate Saunders

The beginning:

“We’ll probably sell the place,” Dad said, from the driver’s seat.  “I shouldn’t think it’s worth much.  The letter said it had been empty for more than seventy years.”

Friday 56:  “I hope you’re right.”

“I’m always right, dear.”  The  cat broke off suddenly and her green eyes darted suspiciously around the walls.”Do you hear something? Are these roses behaving themselves?”

Love the sound of this one with the cat. My cozy read has a cat too.

Actually, it’s a kid’s book (ages 10 and up) about two kids who inherit a chocolate shop. Amazon says it is reminiscent of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
