Runes

FTC Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Runes by Ednah Walters

Blurb (provided by tour organizers):

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father s disappearance, her mother s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her. Raine is drawn to Torin s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run. Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about him. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

My Review:

Through technical glitches I received my review copy only two days before my scheduled post. I was a bit skeptical about trying to read a book in such a short time. Having read Ednah’s work before, I shouldn’t have been. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. Forget the housework, forget the photos that need to be edited – someone else can cook dinner. I had to keep reading to find out what was happening with Raine and Torin.  (I love Raine’s name. It’s short for Lorraine – my middle name.)

Ednah has created an engaging story that readers will not want to put down. It’s very fast paced. Many YA paranormal stories get bogged down in the main character stubbornly holding on to their disbelief in the supernatural. I like that Raine is restricted in that way. I really liked the development of all the main characters – it was easy to read this book because Ednah created characters the reader will care about. Though, I do have to admit that ending was frustrating (it wouldn’t have been if she hadn’t made me care about the characters) and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
